Welcome to the Hall of Heroes. This Gallery is showcasing work by various comic book artists. The artists are from well known franchises such as DC Comics and Marvel Comics. The owner Anthony Lobo has hand-picked these artists because they are considered the best in their field. We are located in Florence, Italy and are open year round, so please feel free to visit and be prepared to be wowed.

A tribute to Comic-Con

Tribute to the Comic-Con Greats is the main feature of this Gallery. The artists we will be featuring are: Lee Bermejo, Mark Bagley, Gary Frank, Steve Mcniven, Cliff Chiang, Julian Totino Tedesco, Steve Sadowski, Ethan Van Sciver, Andy Kubert and Giuseppe Camuncoli.  This show is exhibiting some of the best comic book artist’s work, which includes some of the most popular and well known super heroes. The connection between each piece of artwork is the use of pencil/pen and ink. They were chosen because these artists are the best in their field when it comes to the characters they draw. I chose ten specific characters based on what I feel the most popular comic book super heroes are. After picking the characters I knew I had to choose the best artist for that character and it had to be an artist that penciled the artwork alone and was a well liked artist for that character. All of these artists can tell a story by their artwork alone and because of this talent from these individuals I knew they would be the perfect fit for this gallery.

Batman- Lee Bermejo

Lee Bermejo is an American comic book artist, living in Italy. He started his career by the late 90s mainly for Wildstorm. He collaborated on many series such as Resident Evil, Gen, Superman/Gen with Adam Hughes, Batman/Deathblow with Brian Azzarello and Tim Bradstreet, and Wildcats Annual. He has done work for Marvel and DC Comics, Men's Health, Max Mara, Top Cow productions, Wizard Entertainment

Lee Bermejo, Batman: Noel, Ink wash, 8.5”X11”, 2011

Batman Noel's most remarkable quality is, of course, the art, blending realism, elements of a modern setting, and noir together seamlessly. Lee Bermejo is easily in the top 5 artists working in comics today. 

 This artwork was used in a very successful graphic novel called Batman: Noel. It is a comic book story about Batman and the Joker. It is suppose to resemble A Christmas Carol but with a twist. The art used is a dark, gothic style. This connects to the theme because Batman has and always will be a very popular and well known comic book hero. I chose Bermejo’s artwork because it was a great story that could be read by simply looking at the artwork throughout the book. 

Spider-Man by Mark Bagley

 Mark Bagley is an American comic book artist. He has worked for Marvel Comics and DC Comics. He has worked on titles such as The Amazing Spider-Man, Thunderbolts, New Warriors, and Ultimate Spider-Man. At age 23 he entered a contest and won 1^st place, which landed him a job with Marvel Comics.

The basic penciling techniques used in this picture create a great story between Spider-man and his villain. The Inking used helps the images stand out and gives it a much needed comic feel to it. 

Mark Bagley’s rendition of the Amazing Spider-Man became an instant classic. The story behind this piece is basically one of the first pictures that depicted Spider-Man dying from one of his enemies. This connects to the theme because Spider-Man is a hero everybody loves and has been around since the beginning of Comics. Adults in their 50’s and children who are 5 all know Spider-Man and can all tell the story of how he came to be. I chose this piece because Bagley was one of the first to depict the death of Spider-Man, which was a huge risk because nobody wants to see their favorite hero die, but in the end it turned out to be a trend followed by other comic book writers and artists.
