Steve Mcniven,Civil War,Pencil and Ink on Paper, 8.5”X11”, 2008
This beautiful piece of art is from a comic series
named Civil War. This series is based off super heroes having to register their
identities or prepare to face the consequences. This piece shows of f Tony
Stark’s suit aka Iron Man, which is his main source of power. Iron Man has been
a fan favorite for years and with the current release of its new feature film
it has made him one of the most popular. I chose him because Iron Man is one of
the main leaders of the Marvel Comics franchise and he is a must have in any
collection.
Steve Mcniven said during an interview,"I work out the problems and get the
arrangements and stuff like that, and then lightbox [them] onto the final page
so I can get the page clean so I'm not doing erasing and stuff like that.” He
then gives the image life by adding shading and color.
Steve McNiven left his home in Canada to move to
Florida and work for CrossGen. His big break, however, occurred in 2006 when he
and Dexter and writer, Mark Millar, were contracted to create the Civil War
mini-series, which turned out to be the highest grossing comic book project of
the decade.
